An update

Apologies for the lack of updates.

So what's new? There is a fashion shop next to the Overground, "I love KR", selling desinger clothes and my wife says it's pretty good. Whether there is the market in KR I don't know.

What we believe to be a butchers is about to open opposite Minkies.

And I think that's about it.

My latest news: had my suit ruined by Andreas the tailor on Kilburn Lane. No apology, no money back. Stay well clear.

I had new designer trousers altered there once - they came back stinking of cigarettes - never again and he was very grumpy.

Brent's new Labour Council is planning to shut Kensal Rise library!!
Please e mail your objections to
Cllr James Powney
cllr.james.powney@brent.gov.uk

We have to protest to save our library

Yes he was very rude and abusive, couldn't understand why I didn't wanted him to try and repair his mistake. In the end told me to f*** off and find another tailor if I didn't want him to fix it.

New butchers is open. Looks great inside. Probably expensive but all organic as you would expect. Their window display will get people in.

realise I am hikjacking a topic thread here but.... Brent are planning to introduce increased parking fees for the controlled parking zones. It is based on the size of engine your car has - so using the green excuse again! Consultation ends November 30th, see here for more details:

I think this is a bad idea:

Three things come to mind

1 If it was about changing behaviour it should only apply to new parking permit applications. It is not good for the environment for someone to sell their car and buy a new one (as the manufacturing creates a lot of C02)
2. This penalises those who do only a few miles. A stationary car does not emit C02. What would be perfect would be a tax on C02 emitted, which sounds somewhat impractical but of course is what a petrol tax does exactly. Furthermore the tax on petrol already funds Brent services.
3. Once again 'car clubs' are mentioned. They are not 'clubs', they are private businesses which are being subsidised by Brent enormously.

Again it is Cllr James Powney of Kensal Green ward putting this forward
just like his fortnightly bin collections which was voted through last week and the closing of Kensal Rise Library - that's him too.

What annoys me hugely is how Brent Borough Council say they are "consulting" residents but more often than not the way we get to hear about their plans is via Residents Association newsletters and blogs such as this one. The fortnightly rubbish collections was mentioned in the Brent Magazine (for those who bother to read the thing!) and the library closures has been covered in the local press however this change to the parking permits has had barely any coverage at all. Taxing the local residents by stealth is appalling in this day and age, surely Brent have the addresses of all car owners in the CPZ's, couldn't they write to them directly???? Ask your neighbours if they know about these plans. Spread the word and unite! Oh and if it REALLY is about reducing CO2 emissions what are they doing about the HGV's passing through the borough, in particular to the waste metal plant off Scrubbs Lane??
