What does Kensal Rise most need?

Or just would be nice.

One thing we would like is a proper pizzeria, or Italian. I haven't really found anything in the area - Pizza Teca became takeaway only a few years back. If anyone has any recomendations.

We did want a butcher, and 'Meat Farm' has opened. Has anyone tried it? We'd also like a book shop or a second-hand shop that sold books.

* I saw Baker & Spice has closed for 'refurbishment'. A friend told me staff in one of their other branches said it actually has closed for good. Not sure if this is true. We also are concerned that the shoe repair place at the north end of Chamberlayne Road has closed down.

A second-hand bookshop would be great! Not sorry about Baker and Spice leaving as it is a massive rip-off...

Has anyone tried the takeaway pizzas from the shop on the Kensal Rise row near Eat Sushi?

A decent pizza place would be good...most of the pizzas I have tried towards Kilburn, and down Chamberlayne Rd and Harrow Road are all the same: Oily, only sporadic dots of toppings and covered in a thick layer of solid cheese! Also, most places seem to have really thick bases, so a place with really traditional Italian pizzas would be brilliant.

Has anyone tried the Pizza place on Salisbury road, Pomodori e Baci

I think Pizza Teca has closed completely now but we've found Casareccia on Kilburn High Road.

Wonderful pizza and pasta delivery.

Casareccia website here.

By the way, has anyone noticed that The Apprentice candidates are staying in the Portobello Dock apartments at the bottom of Kilburn Lane?

If you watch carefully you'll see shots of the canal and various bits and pieces around Kensal Rise!

In response to Matthew - Pomodori e Baci on Salisbury Rd is a great little Italian. Really friendly staff and lovely food (and reasonably priced). It would be great to have somewhere like this actually on or nearer Chamberlayne Rd but it's worth the little walk. I think they deliver too - check em out!

Went into Harvist today. Nice inside. Still has teething problems and are feeling their way I imagine. Had jacket potatoes which were ok, but unremarkable. The coffee on the other hand was the best around (barring L'Angelo's). The lady who owns it seems really, really nice. Cakes look ace but as on a diet didn't indulge.

They are planning to get a license for parking so can pen the back in the summer for BBQ's and jazz.

Will definitely go back, even if it is just for coffee.

Wish them well. A good addition I think.

my frustration is that there isn't a tight group of shops to meet all needs so we finish up dragging round the Rise, Salusbury Road, Kilburn Lane and even Notting Hill.

Just heard that Gail's Patisserie is taking over Baker & Spice, Pizza Express interested in Nikki Noodle premises and The Salusbury Deli is to close for 6 weeks for a refurb.

I have been saying to my boyfriend for years that this area needs a decent pizza / Italian restaurant. Ok there is Ida on Kilburn Lane but it's very small and they don't do pizzas. And whilst the pastas are nice they are quite small for the prize. The pasta at The Salusbury is considerable better value and equally tasty. Somewhere with a wood fired oven would be great. Even if one of the local gastro pubs became well known for it's fab pizza's that would be a bonus rather than the same old burger and chips etc. they seem to all do. Ok if Pizza Express take the Nikki Noodle space that is good for Queens Park but still nothing like that in Kensal Rise. And again it's another chain taking over.

Apologies for spelling errors above. Juggling 8 week old baby, eating breakfast and trying to type at the same time!

Thanks for heads-up on the good pizza place, but one where I can meander down and pick it up would be better.

I would love a non-charging cash machine around Station Terrace, nice and central.

I also adore Thai and Vietnamese, and would love one of these to open up if the quality was good and authentic.

I'm thrilled at the opening of Eat Sushi. Japanese is my favourite cuisine. We got takeaway last night. The fish was very good and fresh, the tempura hot and crisp, and the miso was delish!

My only criticism might come down to their recent opening as the turnaround on food was slow... perhaps a little more patronage will iron this out? Certainly no reason to not try them. Yummy Japanese and I can't wait to try the katsu curry... I can make it myself but it'll take me right back to Asakusa...

Meat Farm is good although only he woman owner speaks English. The steaks were huge and very reasonable indeed. Very tasty too.

The billtong is good when the have it and they make home made sausages which I must say tasted great.

Think they will gradually get more stuff in there but a good addition.

I also got some food from Eat Sushi last night and thought that it was excellent!

The salmon is very fresh, and all the other food I got was nicely done too. Miso soup is quite big also - not just a coffee cup size!

They have quite a broad menu (not just sashimi etc), and a bit for the kids too, which I thought was good.

This is a great addition to Kensal Rise and I definitely recommend them.

I agree re a Pizza place for Kensal Rise. We have too many betting shops and estate agents wish one of those would close and a pizza place open instead.

I think someone should have a word with the pizza takeaway place on the corner of Station Terrace. He is clearing missing out on a fantastic opportunity.

Agree the steaks from Meat Farm are good but worry if the guy in there is a real butcher as he tried to cut my boyfriend some billtong with a knife he'd used for cutting raw meat!
