Slightly out of our area, but still NW London so I thought I'd mention it. Here's a shot of the Beatles before their famous Abbey Road photoshoot. Here is the same location today (I don't think you can directly link to StreetView images so you need to get it yourself).
My conclusion is that the crossing has NOT moved from its 1960s location, which is not what you often read.

At one point in the late 1970s or early 1980s the crossing was resurfaced and sections of it were collected and sold off by enterprising scavengers for a few years afterwards. At least one section was sold at one of the early rock memorabilia auctions at one of the major auction houses. So technically, whether it moved or not it still isn't exactly the same crossing.
You're right. Look at the position of the drain just to the right of the crossing by the pavement. If that hasn't moved, neither has the crossing.
