Tesco in gold flats

Thanks to various informative commenters we know seem to have proof it will be a Tesco in the Dubai gold flats. Some people who live near there will be pleased but I think many of us would have liked anything else, given we already have a Tesco in Kensal Rise.

On the good news a high quality pizza place is definitely coming to what was Harvist. And it looks like there will also be a Nandos.

I heard that Tesco had bought the lease, but would not open a shop. Just to block any other supermarket opening. They will then sub let to a non supermarket

darn, thought that a waitrose might have been a bit far-fetched, but an M&S would have been useful too. tesco is nasty

Tesco have applied to put in an ATM, planning application: https://forms.brent.gov.uk/servlet/ep.ext?extId=101150&reference=108460&st=PL

If they're putting in planning - inc signage, then I personally doubt they'll sit on it - but fingers crossed!

A fitness club surely? -For Greed Based Lifeforms, -the only creeps ever associated with this squalid enterprise -built on the torture & murder of a caretaker (Charalambos Christodoulides)in 2000, by a psychopathic richboy who wanted the original site.
-The fake gold monstrosity is a fitting monument to the bad taste of evil people & a warning to us all of the very worst kind of people encroaching our part of London.

Does anyone know if there is any organised protest about the possible Tesco's?

Have a look at the brochure on this page -

My favourite line is -

8 STOREYS OF PURE GOLD.

What's happened to the new pizza place? Thought it was due to open mid July. Looking forward to it.

Pizza place opening next week. Tesco in Kensal rise Is the most successful branch per square foot in the country apparently so will not be closing. Tesco bought the lease for the gold flats site as a spoiler to stop waitrose or anyone else going in. Or do I heard.

Really another Tesco in Kensal Rise............. is it necessary?

I would have thought an M&S would have brought much better value and variety to the area rather than yet another Tesco, who seem intent on overtakign the NW10 area.

The corporate giant Tesco doesn't care about variety, they're only interested in domination / monopolization to protect the profits of their store / stores (even it it means 1 will make a loss)

The Developers were only interested in who will pay the most (and Tesco's will pay a lot to monopolize an area)

Exactly. If a more affluent supermarket opened such as M&S or Waitrose, the Tesco store at the bus stop would have seen a huge decline in profits.

It won't be long before one of our many independent coffee shops are put out of business with a Costa or Starbucks.

What we do need is a fishmongers. A decent one, much like the one in Golborne Rd, would do a roaring trade.

A decent wine store wouldn't go a miss. There is just godawful choice in most of the corner shops.

Do we have a lot excellent coffee shops?

Agree about a wine shop. Sometimes fantasise about opening one myself.

I think the area probably would find it hard to sustain an M&S or Waitrose though at the moment.

L'Angelos does a smashing coffee.

Puf Up and Taste of Chamberlayne are contenders for best Laté / coffee shop!

We had a wine shop. Obviously not enough people used it to keep it in existence.

The signs outside the new Tesco say they will have an expanded off-licence so maybe you'll be able to get better wine there.

Does anyone know what is happening with Nando's?

Do you mean Miros? I liked (and used it) but I think it needed a few cheaper bottles.

Nandos - I've heard nothing new.

Miros shut down due to Samson and Miro going their separate ways. It was also a few years ahead of its time I think. There is probably more need for it now. The Salusbury wine store in QP is amazing.

Not been to Puf Up. Always looks empty, which is a shame. The salads in the window look a little bit cheap. If they did Ottelenghi style (without the price tag) they would do well.

I want our local chef, Thomasina, to open a Mexican place.

Something like Polpo perhaps, like a wine bar with charcuterie/tapas would be handy...

boo to tescos. ALso, even though I am a fan, boo to nandos. Not what is needed in the rise.

Call me a nimby.

Heard from a local businessman that the scruffy building next to Bawarchi is looking like being an estate agents. Boo.

Also, is it me or does it look like the new Tesco is tiny. Maybe Nandos is moving in.

STOP PRESS:
-HM Govt Health & Safety experts demanding that ‘Bling-Bling Towers’ remove ‘Dem-Shiney-Fing-pan-de-outside-of-building’....
-Apparently bus drivers & other automobilistas complaining bitterly -that at different times of the day, the gleaming-faux-gold-obscenity is dazzling helpless drivers up & down Chamberlayne Road with reflected Sunlight & low taste, thus endangering lives on Her Majesty’s Highways.
The Tesler-Cohen (Tesco) Colossal Empire are considering a riposte, once they’ve waded through all the £££ millions you lot all keep giving them in exchange for such shitty products....
–Hee-hee !

Despite enjoying the latest "--STOP PRESS--" addition I can't find anything to support the rumour

"Some people who live near there will be pleased"

Really???

I live in Noko & would prefer any other shop that Tesco. I'm genuinely shocked no-one has made more of a fuss about this awful company taking over our area...

Think Nandos will really cheapen the area to be honest. Just thankful its not a McDonalds though. Hope we don't end up with hoards of teens gathered at the corner/bus stop on banister road -Kilburn lane resident.

I agree that there shouldn't be another Tesco... But that is old news now! Nando's on the other hand is a very good idea, as you will see in 3 days... It will be always busy unlike these clicky wanna be joints that cater to one (pretentious) type of customer. If you don't like it, perhaps you have the money to cross the bridge and move into the Grove? There you could join in chasing the remaining original people out of their vibrant area to make it grey and dull catering for one (pretensious borring type. :-) yah yaaah! Please
