Here's a list of our favourite restaurants (not pub restaurants, although I realise two are pubs as well), in only a vague order of perhaps how often we go to them (as you can't really compare some of them)
Bawarchi
Paradise by Way of Kensal Green
Pomelo
The Island
We keep meaning to go to but for various reasons haven't Ida, on Fifth Avenue, but haven't got around to doing it.
I should also mention my favourite burgers of Kensal Rise. This is...
The Regent, where the burger is large, meaty, not too complex. It was much better than The Diner. I'm not sure about The Chamberlayne's burger, and we find the meat a little expensive (big fans of the pub, though), but their prawn cocktail is about the best thing going.

Have been to Ida's twice, the food is delicious! they also do 3 courses for £15, Mon-Weds and we found the choice of dishes really good :)
I am glad Bawarchi is near where I live now...It is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever eaten at in London! I have eaten at loads of places all over London - including Brick Lane, and still found Bawarchi to be one of the best...The service is also excellent!
Thank you Mr Bawarchi.
Been to Ida's, food good, service very bad.
lol, I am not "Mr Bawarchi"...just a girl who likes a good curry...and that is hard to find in London.
Off topic, but does anyone else find the people that run the post office on College Road to be completely miserable? Much nicer and more helpful at the Chamberlayne Rd one...
yeah, Baron Greenback just stands there refusing to serve stamps when there's a massive queue.
LOL, v. accurate description!
Went to the Portuguese on Harrow Road. SLB? Anyway the food rocked. Large skewers of prawns and steak.
The food is amazing. The place is bright and full of families at the weekend.
This, The Island and Tong Kanom Thai are my favourite KR food haunts.
Heard just last week from a friend how good the SLB Portuguese place is and she has lived in Portugal, so knows re Portuguese food. So with the comment above (thanks) definitely a 'must try'. Will keep you updated when I do.
off topic 2, but i agree with the post office in college road...
Went there again tonight. Food is ace. Stick to skewers and fish. Well lovely. Antonio, the main waiter, is nice bloke. Only downside are the toilets. Otherwise recommend it. On a weekend it is rammed so need to book. Worth it on a Saturday for Christiano Ronaldo with blonde tips singing whilst playing the keyboard. Pure comedy.
Today's London Light mentions Kensal Rise as one of "the city's hottest new dining destinatons". They mention Diner, Paradise, Ida on Fifth Avenue which I don't know-they call it "a local secret", Minkies, The Chamberlayne and Samson Miro wine bar (the old name).
yes, the burgers are good at the Diner, but when you go, make sure you ask for the gratuity to be removed from the bill. It doesn't go to the waitstaff, but to the company itself. Leave a cash tip if you want it to go to your server.
On the note above. I know not necessarily KR but that happened at Osteria Basilica in Notting Hill. We tried to give the waitress just her tip. She said if you don't leave service it comes out of her wages and she doesn't get the service, so we had to leave a tip as well as she deserved it. I find the whole service a disgrace. Obviously nothing against tipping.
went to paradise last nite, if you book through top table you can get 50% off food, was busy for a monday night so there was a great atmosphere in the restaurant and the bar afterwards - food was aaamazzzzing - and really generous portions! and the waiter was good fun (and really fit!) - would recommend, especially with discount
Lived around here for a couple of decades!! Khas is the best Indian for eat in and home delivery....although it does get busy sometimes. Don't think much of the new Chinese.
Khas is the best Indian.... Ida's is excellent, Pomodori on Salusbury very good.
Let's bring this thread back to life. Ate in the Chamberlayne on Saturday and it was as good as ever. Well worth the money and a great choice of drinks to wash it down. Should go more often as it's a much better offer than Paradise or the Masons..
