The new shop

There's been rumours it's going to be a Waitrose and then an M&S and then a Waitrose and so on. I fear these might be nonsense - surely the corner is not the wealthiest area and not really the sort of place either shop would go, lacking passing trade. I guess the flats themselves will provide a ready market. Anyone heard any concrete news?

UPDATE: See comments for an apparent mention in Ladbroke Magazine of it being Waitrose. Nothing here in their new list of shops, but that is definitive.

Not a wealthy area??
Houses have been going for over a Million nearby and the flats are going to be about half a million- What do you class as wealthy?

Well i said 'not the wealthiest area' which is obviously true.

But I'd be willing to say that anyone who walks down Kilburn Lane, Mortimer Road, or down Chamberlayne from that junction, is not going to think it's a particularly wealthy area either.

Very nice and informative blog

I think you'll find that if it is a Waitrose, footfall would be immense.

Don't knock Mortimer Road! Of the streets west of Chamberlayne Road, it's up there with the best of them. It need not be ashamed in the presence of an Ashburnum - though it knows it will never be a Wrentham or a Chevening - and lots of people are doing really quite nice things to their fronts nowadays...

Oh I would never knock Mortimer Road, and it is usefully near the Tube.

I was told yesterday that Tesco had signed the lease for this. They wanted to stop another retailer from having the shop!
