8 Station Terrace, Kensal Rise - a short review

We went to the new bistro-style restaurant on Station Terrace last week. We shared a cheese and leek quiche to start, followed by lamb chops with a side of greens, and for me salmon and (I think) prawn fish cakes with a tomato salad. We share an Eton Mess for dessert. To drink a diet coke and two glasses of red wine.

We thought the food was simple and well done - the quiche was exceptionally tasty and our only complaint is that it was a little overpriced - £6 for one slice of quiche - £5 would be about right. The fish cakes (£10) were just the right amount of fishy and not too much potato. "You can't go wrong with lamb chops" (£10) apparently, and they didn't. The Eton Mess (£4 - good value) was fantastic, lovely home-made tasting meringue and juicy strawberries. Both red wines were excellent. Service was friendly and not overly fussy.

Inside was nice with lots of pictures on the wall - I agree with the commentator who said the front window is a little bare, looking out as it does onto the railway side. On the other hand during the day I imagine it is nice to get so much light in.

So, minor quibbles aside, we think it is an excellent addition to the Rise - filling a large gap in the market.

Went there, only for coffee, and actually quite liked the fact that there was nothing to really see out of the front window. It was more relaxing having little traffic (vehicle or pedestrian) going by. Coffee was okay, interior was well done. I would go back...

I went for Sunday brunch. It was busy but the service was friendly and efficient.

I ordered roast beef etc. Good portions and tasty, attractively served. Eton Mess for desert. For two people, with glassed of wine and capuccinos it came to £47.50.

I recommend them.

Went there today for a quick bite. Had sea bream with roasted tomatoes for £12. A portion of of potatoes was about £2.50. Finished off with a chocolate brownie for £4.

Thought the main was quite expensive for portion size and didn't blow me away.

The pudding was good especially for the price.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the place has a good vibe about it.

I think the menu could be a little more exciting, especially with The Island being not too far away.

I hope this place does well and will be back though.

8 Station Terrace is a nice place,we've eaten there and enjoyed it. However, I have been in on a number of occasions on my own just for a coffee and I have to say each time the coffe, though good in taste, wasn't that hot, in fact it was luke warm.

I think the cafes & restaurants in the area are overpriced.

Amazing espresso here. Square Mile beans, freshly ground each time. 8 bars of pressure and 27 seconds extracting 25mL of black gold. Finally, a good espresso in Kensal Rise!

New Manager, Carl Brodie in place since September. Along with Head Chef, Rogerio he has really made an impact. Latest review in London Eater is excellent - see http://londoneater.com/2010/10/08/8-station-terrace-remembering-lambshanks/

Thanks, we've been a few times now and really like it. Our one complaint is the starters are too expensive.

We went for an evening meal and were disappointed as the one thing I fancied on the menu, the lamb, was not available. Tasty starters but expensive for what they were. Seriously underwhelmed by the chicken tagging. Husband had steak and chips and the chips were nothing like the amazing ones described in the Metro- some of the most unappetising chips I have ever seen! Having said that, it was busy, nice atmosphere and friendly staff... They need to sort food out if they want to live up to the hype. Would I go back? I'd like to say yes but truthfully, probably not. Disappointing.
